Brother Stephen Doan 33°, is a Past Grand Master of Masons of California, a Past Venerable Master of the Valley of Los Angeles, a Past Grand Sovereign and current Grand Recorder of the Red Cross of Constantine and a Past Jurisdiction Master Councilor of Southern California DeMolay.  He is a past president and a Fellow of The Philalethes Society and a Fellow of the Northern California Research Lodge.  He was the principal author of the California Grand Lodge’s current online candidate’s education program.  He is a frequent speaker on Masonic topics.  He was the 2019 Anson Jones Lecturer for Texas Lodge of Research.  His recently published articles include Moral Advantages of Geometry, Religious Inclusion in California Freemasonry (a study on what constitutes a belief in a Supreme Being and Future Existence) and Gender, Race, Religion and Secrecy: Answering Questions and Managing Risk.  He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1971, graduating summa cum laude, with highest department honors.  He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  He received his Juris Doctor degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1974.  He has been a member of the California State Bar Association since 1974 and belongs to its Sections on Taxation and Probate and Estate Planning.  He is very involved in volunteer work.  Besides Freemasonry, he has served as Board Chair of the Midnight Mission on Los Angeles’s Skid Row, President of the Youth Fund of Southern California, President of the Boys and Girls Club of Venice and a Vestry member of his church.
